PONY!!! - with more pics

Postby Rosie B » Wed Apr 05, 2017 12:14 am

Hello Team :D

After a winter spent mostly laying low playing with my boys while Bliss was in the living care of my friend, I am ready to get back in the saddle regularly!! Bliss is coming home on Thursday, and he's not coming alone!!!

Say hello to Princess. Princess is 11.1 hands, 20 years old, and wonderful with small children. I am so excited!!!

Hope you all are well. :)

So cute! Looks like she is ready to shed out and you could have what looks like another small animal on the ground by the time you were done!

A little 12ish hand Welsh type pony showed up at my barn the other day (probably for sales purposes). Dappled grey, huge eyes, and so magical! And she is a handy little jumper!

Princess practically trotted on the trailer on Thursday. She didn't want her buddy to leave without her! Here are some more pics from when we brought her home. :)

And yesterday she gave four little children their first pony rides! She was wonderful and you could tell she was just loving it. Here are some pictures of her giving a pony ride to my son Max. Max turned 3 in January. Next up - we need a pony saddle!!

Princess has also apparently decided that I am the bringer of goodness because every time she sees me she nickers and comes running over to the gate. She is such a sweetheart.

Princess looks AWESOME.
For a pony saddle, we had a few when my girls were that little and, depending on what you want, i have a few recommendations.
Cheap and easy? Wintec kids saddle with the built-in handle. Less than $200 and teeny-tiny.
Something nicer? Pessoa Pony. New about $1300, the 13" size can be found used if you are lucky for about $500 (bigger ones are cheaper as there is competition). Pessoa Pony is built on their "haflinger" tree so the fit is good for ponies (we actually had a Haflinger :)) and it sits the kid pretty well. Was a good fit for my girls from the time they were about 4, and now, at 8, the oldest is starting to almost grow out of it.

I knew a very wise and experienced instructor who told me once, "Ponies was put on this earth to run off with small children". She ran a high quality children's lesson barn for many years so I'm guessing she knew of what she spoke!

Lol!!! Chisamba and Martha - you guys are both right.

There is a devil in princess and we have been very thoroughly briefed about it. Yes she runs off with small children. Only if the small child is the only one "driving the bus". Lead line and longe line she is great. Otherwise, she has some quirks.
