As a rule, if you're not using a hot water extractor or steam cleaner, you want to avoid soaking the upholstery, which means something that is lovely and foaming. I've heard good things about Meguir's All Purpose Cleaner. Vacuum well, apply mostly foam with a sponge (scrub brush if you're cleaning the carpet), lift off the dirt and water residue with a clean towel, let it dry, and vacuum again. Repeat if necessary.
