A very moving tribute (and perhaps a comment about our times. . . . ):

It's sobering, that's for sure! That was (for me, at least) one of those historical events where you remember exactly where you were. I was in the 6th grade, it was pouring down rain as we sat in a car listening to the news while waiting for the car pool of children to assemble. A very dark, rainy, and dreary day will always mark the moment for me.

I did think it was a lovely tribute and so befitting the times.

First grade. My mom was late to pick me up - I was the last one left on the playground - and when she arrived, she was crying.
Just read a memorial to his service in the Navy. I'd forgotten that because he was such a strong swimmer, he saved almost all his crew by dragging them, sometimes one-at-a-time, to shore of a tiny Pacific island. They were rescued six days later. And this was after his dad pulled strings to get him INTO the Navy since he'd been deferred due to his back issues.

Not quite like our current kommandar-in-chef (intended)
