Difference between a hot flash and just sweating?

Postby bits » Tue Jun 13, 2017 3:09 am

I'm sweating profusely. All I did was water the horses, pick up four loads of poop, spread half bag of shavings and turn on a water spigot stand and wait to fill the trough, and then turn off the spigot. Water is dripping off my face like a put my head in the trough. Am I just hot or is this a hot flash?

I'd be better about having my ovaries removed if this was a hot flash. LOL

I think hot flashes associated with menopause come frequently are become identifiable as such. They follow a pattern in type in my experience.

In England, we call them "hot flushes" which I think is more descriptive. It's more like an internal bloom of heat.

Hot flashes occur when it's 40 degrees. :D And 80. And 20. When you're lying still.

Exactly. I remember one very cold, very windy December night years ago. I was experiencing the mother of all hot flashes, removing my coat as quickly as I could in a mall parking lot. People were looking at me like I was crazy. Yeah, crazy hot!

Or when it's winter and -20 degrees outside and you're driving to work with your windows and sunroof open!

Love the "hot flush" terminology.

This thread has reminded me that I need to pick up more black cohosh (does seem to help me with the flashes/flushes).

And at 4 a.m. when you've just pulled the covers back over you because you had cooled back down after having the 3:30 a.m. "flush";)

My "flushes" always seemed to coincide when something was stressing me out @ work. They were a great signal to calm down :D

My flashes have considerably lessened in the last years but I get them in response to anxiety/nervousness/stress and the sweat smells different. I can drip sweat when physically working but won't stink.

Under the situation described - like finding my boat taking on water while a half mile from the dock - I don't sweat, but get a bitter, awful taste in my mouth. I've been told it's adrenalin. I suppose the same may be true for your sweat.

I never had a hot flash when I was cold. Talk about unfair. Mine were so bad that they woke me up hourly.

I only recently, at 52, started having hot flashes. I would mostly get them between 2-4am, a dismal interference to my sleep. I have found that if I don't eat gluten, I don't get them, or if I do it is mild and brief. Periods are waning but I also found that eating gluten was linked to very heavy bleeding (flooding episodes). A friend had the same experience, so that's 2, there might be something to it.

Red wine made mine much worse. Unfortunately.
