Good bye Princess, Hello Hulk

Postby Abby Kogler » Fri Sep 22, 2017 1:59 pm

After 7 years of taping, gluing, praying over, swearing at, my old New Holland TC-21 finally has gone to the great tractor graveyard in the sky. Princess and I have been through a lot in the last 7 years, and I will send her to my tractor guy for parts with a tear in my eye and a moment of silence.

But look at what comes today! Woot!

Lucky you - enjoy your new tractor!

We have a similar Kubota that has been a good work horse for us. DH bought two clamp-on pallet forks (which I thought would be useless, since we don't feed large bales), but they have come in handy many times. We also ended up getting a 3-point quick hitch to make it easier to switch out implements. It has cut down on the swearing quite a bit.

Princess was great and did everything I needed but she was old and her repairs were getting deeper and more expensive and endless, and she left me stranded many times. Its hard to do 6 or 7 or any horses here without a tractor. Impossible, actually. I have an arena and turnouts to drag, and poop to get to the dumpster, hay to carry around. I just couldn't keep being down with The P. So the new one came today and it is really beautiful. The guy who helps me a few days a week and who has suffered along with me and The P is very happy >;->

It was a lot of money though, yoiks. YOIKS. Thinking about it, it is only the second thing in my whole life with regards to trucks, cars, horse trailers, even my barn, that I have ever bought new and made payments on. I bought a new Subaru in 1994 and made payments on it. That was it, ever. But this is 0% financing, so it seemed silly to spend the cash (which I also don't have, so there you go!) and I am teaching and doing PT again so can do the payments without taking it out of household money. Will try to pay it off before the end, just because. I hate debt.

Thanks all! It really is a thing of beauty >;->

Such a nice shiny new toy!

Don't you just love tractors? I don't use mine all that often but like having it in the barn in case I need it. I used to have to share with the dh so the tractor was always gone when I needed it, so I got a little one just like that, but much older, so it would be right where I left it whenever I got the urge to use it.

I have nearly the same tractor, several years older. It kicks ass! And when I break it, fixing it has been a breeze.

My tractor guy said if I don't get a Kubota he wont help me any more ha~!

This thing is a joy. Imagine! A tractor that starts, first try! A tractor that does not envelope me in an oily black cloud when it does start! A tractor that can pull my big drag without even needed to be in four wheel drive. Woohoo!!! Life is good >;->

Indeed, very spiffy. The most fun year of my life was the year I managed a 40 stall dressage and CT (and driving) eq center. The John Deere tractor was one of the highlights. It was relatively new and very reliable. Every morning I'd fire it up and head up to the barns with a giant grin on my face. I loved that tractor.

My dad had a John Deere tractor with a fly wheel when I was a kid, and I'd go out and fiddle with the petcocks and pull that wheel around until I could get it started, which always seemed like a miracle when it finally took off. We had a 4 wheel wagon with a long drawbar, and I liked driving that tractor so much that I learned to back up that wagon, which was a skill which served me well when I finally got a horse trailer.

I love it! I am curious whether you can get a belly mower for a tractor like that?
