NY Times Piece on Inmates Training Mustangs

“Me, personally, I just like seeing them getting adopted out,” he said. “I look at them like us: I helped the horse become a better person so he can make parole.”

Thanks for the link to that great article. I am somewhat familiar with Wild Horse Inmate Program at the Canon City, CO.

Programs like these seem so worthwhile - the mustang and the inmate gentle each other, while improving their futures.

I get so sad when I hear if budget cuts to programs like this, or the ones where jails have dogs from shelters come in for training for a few months to live with the inmates/get trained and adopted out. There are so so so many upsides to these programs...and no down sides if you really look at the numbers holistically, like the cost she for dogs at the county funded pound or the costs of BLM aspects. These guys learn and grow on so many levels, get new skills that may help them get jobs even with a record, and of course the animals benefit. Just love this concept so very much.
