Lost my best horse..horse hair jewelry?

Postby Jan & PJ » Fri Oct 13, 2017 3:02 pm

I just lost my 13 year old mare that was born and raised on our place to an unusually aggressive cancer. I saved some tail and mane hair and would like to have something made from it. Has anyone had some horse hair jewelry made? If so who do you recommend for it? I really want to keep a part of this beautiful soul close to me.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I know PaulaO had some beautiful pieces made from Bob's tail that she was very pleased with. I hope she will chime in.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had a ring and a watch made by Penny at ponylocks.com and a bracelet by Trisha at galladesigns.com Both are beautiful pieces and Penny and Trisha were lovely to work with. Very respectful. I recommend them both.

Very sorry to hear about this.

We had a group make a horse necklace and bracelet set for a friend. It turned out wonderfully. They used three horses' groups of hair to make them.

I'm so sorry. It hurts especially when you lose them so young. I've looked at a lot if the jewelry but haven't indulged. I did get a horse hair vase several years ago when I lost Homer on the colic surgery table. I really enjoy having it and the memories when I look at it.

Thank you all so much. It was such a shock. Had an awesome ride on her 6 weeks ago and now she is gone. I'm devastated. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep checking back for more. Here is a pic of my sweet girl.

So sorry for this unexpected and heartfelt loss. Such a beautiful and kind eye she had.

No suggestions on a jeweler.

This woman does the most gorgeous and unique work ever. I have a bracelet made from my horse's tail hair and I treasure it.
It's expensive but highest quality work.

Thank you all so much for your sympathy. I'll feel the pain of this loss for years to come. It is not all darkness however as the little yearling filly I rescued 2 years ago is really stepping up to the plate and showing herself to be brave and wise beyond her years. It will be really hard to not go too far too fast with her. Thanks for the recommendations on jewelry. Both make some really lovely pieces!

So sorry (((hugs)))

I still haven't had anything done with Merlin's hair... but I should get onto it soon so that I have something special from him.

I have hair from Yo and Melly that I have been trying to figure out what to do with, the bracelets and things just aren't something I would likely care for well, and therefore would never wear them.

Recently saw these and think I will get 2 to fill with each of their hair, they have a rubber ring so that if they do get in water it's less likely to ruin them:

For those who would like something other than jewelry, I have ordered several pieces from here, and I have loved each of them. She does a beautiful job.
