Misty Harbor Raincoats

Postby Tarlo Farm » Sat Oct 28, 2017 12:54 pm

Dang! After my first one (purchased in the early 90s?) cracked once too often and was no longer good to leave the property, I tried to find another and couldn't. I was thrilled to find one a couple years ago in the closet of my deceased sister. Last week the outer shell of it also started to split, so I went online. What do you know, the company folded in 1991  and these are made no more.

If any of you are in the garment business, this coat needs to be made again! Obviously, they wear like iron, they are a comfy, fuzzy cotton flannel lined (not fleece), with a soft, flexible PVC outer shell that is TOTALLY waterproof, not just water resistant. All for about $40. I'd pay twice that for a new one.

I bought what I thought was a reasonable facsimile, but the "flannel" is more like muslim. and the shell is too stiff. I know...First World problems.

Yes. But then I'll again, have a 1991 edition - at best. I have one of those. Maybe older.

I believe my old one is hanging in the tack room of my former barn. I put it there in the early 90s.....

When I lived in a wet climate I loved my oilskin jacket. I see Orvis is selling one cut for women now, but no need for such a thing in Boise!
Keep calm and canter on.

I'm a fan of the "Driza-Bone" riding rain coats. I got one in a "buy-out" of another rider's horse equipment. That was in 1986. I've been using the rain coat ever since them and just came in from feeding in a "gully washer" down pour wearing it. They're a bit pricy, but considering I've been wearing it for 31 years and it's still going strong, I guess it's worth the money.

Whaaaaaat???? How did that not turn up in my searches? Or was I leery because there were no product reviews? Just returned one that wasn't right, off to order that and see if it is the real deal. Thank you!!

Boscov's is an old family owned store(s) in NJ and PA - think large like Macy's and Lord & Taylor. They are located in a shopping mall nearby and I was familiar with Misty Harbor seen in this store. I wouldn't worry about reviews as mostly folks purchase in store. I shop there all the time for sale items.

I'll update when it arrives - probably the same day as the raincoat I ordered from LL Bean. 8-)

Gosh, you make me want one except I have one of those Snowy River coats hanging in a closet since about 1991 when I was in my Australian phase of life along with the hat.

At that time I was just getting acquainted with my New Zealand Throughbred, Rockabilly. I thought I needed to look the part.
