Kindle paper white question

How do you delete books you've read out of your library on the Kindle paper white device? I've tried hold down on the selected book - see the menu and select remove. I've also gone into my Amazon account and attempted to remove from there. So far, no luck and I keep seeing titles I had attempted to remove. What am I doing wrong?

I've been able to do it via my Amazon account on a PC and laptop. I don't know if you can do via the tablet.

hmmm.... I use a chromebook and do not have a laptop. This is a nuisance to remove items I've already read.
