Hubby, son and I took a lovely camping trip in the mountains of Idaho this past weekend (Friday thru Sunday). For you city folk, it's the kind of camping with no water or electrical hook up or cell service, but we are able to haul our camper up in there. Anyway, we went to the creek to fly fish for trout and, instead, found the water red with Kokanee. Thought I would share some pictures.

Beautiful! How fun!! BTW my Eagle Scout DH says you are camping when you haul the tent in on your back! He does not think a camper is camping:) I hiked part of the Appalachian trail with DH before he was DH, that is enough camping for me!
So sorry for your unplanned dismount off Tio! Feel better soon. I feel for you!!

Wow beautiful! I, too, am of the experience that camping involves a long hike with gear on my back. Your way sounds awesome.

Re: Kokanee are spawning
So far as camping goes...DH decided to give the tent to son and buy a used "tin tent" a few years ago. This camper is built for off-road, rugged use and for our older bones, a true luxury. For my friend's Eastern relatives, it is an old beater which doesn't even have any slide-outs. That's why I was explaining what I meant about camping. I too, spent much of my youth and younger adulthood hiking/camping all over the Sierras, Rockies and Sawtooths/Whiteclouds. When I was a kid, every summer my family would head off for a 2-3 week hiking trip--my dad was a major fan of "getting away from it all."
Anyway, anyone have any ideas on what to do with the 6 Kokanee I have in my freezer? I barbecued the whitefish last night, it was delicious. Can't decide if I should smoke and/or brine the salmon though.

I am not lucky enough to live in a land where I could catch my own salmon, but I am big fan of "quick smoking"---it usually take about 45 minutes to smoke a salmon side in my PK grill.
