Sometimes holidays are difficult

I had an amazing Christmas.
Highpoint: After a 2 year search, right before Christmas, I finally found the perfect used tractor. It has a cab, 4wd, front-end loader, only 10 years old with only 500 hours on it! Oh, and most importantly, 60hp of pure power! Truly a dream come true. Dealer delivered it to the house Friday before Christmas. We all hoped for blowing snow so we could work it, and snow did indeed come. My dog Lucy was especially excited to be able to ride up in the cab with dh. Oh, the adventures she would have.
2nd highpoint: My son made it back from his Caribbean cruise safely and on time (Christmas eve at 1am) He is in high school and a good friend of his invited him on their family cruise. He had a great time.
Low, low, low point.: Saturday, after taking Rudy and Lucy for a ride, lucy ran down to the corner to see what was going on across the highway. She got hit by a car, but was ok, just scared and disoriented. While the neighbor and car driver were trying to help her, a semi came bombing down, and without a thought, hit her in the head. My beloved Lu is now running around in heaven without me. She was my dog, but I don't know who is more devastated, dh or I. I can't describe her, she was a truly unique dog. The shelter found her laying unconscious on a sidewalk 2 years a go right before Christmas. She had parvo and almost froze to death in the night. After 4 days, she decided to live and finally came to, only to discover she was no longer on the streets and was surrounded by humans. She was terrified. There was just something about her face and eyes that told me though, THIS was my new dog. It took a few days for her to relax enough to let me touch her and she never did get over her head shyness, but dang did she blossom under our care. She had such an expressive face, she talked back if you said something she didn't like, she pointed to things she wanted, and she'd hit other dogs in the head with her paw if she wanted them to move. She hunted and killed rabbits, but not cats...pheasants but not chickens. She traveled the country side with first Rudy and then Tio and I, but never quit chasing and annoying them in the pasture. She was unruly but well-mannered. She was only 21/2 when she died. Sometimes, Christmas is hard.
