I need help naming my farm/soon-to-be-LLC!

Postby MidgetMustang » Mon Feb 25, 2019 12:28 pm

Hello all!

I'm mostly a lurker but am venturing out of the woodwork because dang it-I need help!! I'm pursuing incorporating my horsey habit and turning my passion into a side hustle (I have a regular full time job but my schedule allows me to have a fair amount of flexibility). I'll be breeding a couple of mare and offering some basic lessons and training. The current challenge is...I need a name for my business! My question is-how did YOU find your business name? Any tips or tricks? Nothing seems to roll off the tongue and I'm starting to pull out my hair.

TIA!!

i would say most places take their name from their location; Tall Firs, Blue Heron, Central Park, Rainier Vista...
The others strive to id the type of focus, training or breed.

I have always liked the first option.

I named mine after my home town, which now causes confusion because people online think I'm local, not realizing I'm in the USA.

It is useful in that it's unique. There are probably hundreds of mountainside, mountain view, rocky top etc names

I live on Apricot Road, the name of my farm is Apricot Acres! Not very original, but I like it!

I do like farms named after their location characteristics.

Our home property is called Pinefall Farm. It was originally named after a property where pine trees fell after a bad ice storm and hurricane in a single year. When we moved, we found that our new farm also had a lot of fallen pines (due to pine beetle damage), so the name stuck. It sounds pretty, but it actually describes a bit of a mess!

We are Hidden Ridge Ranch. We wanted to use the name of the road we are on, which also includes a "Ridge", but someone else already claimed that name. Our house is located on a ridge and is hidden from view from the road, hence the name. One of the very first names we considered was "Spin Puppy Ranch", an homage to our wonderful lab/mix family member, who had a hilariously unique way of spinning in place (like a reining horse) when she was excited. :D

We too are named after a local feature = creek.

As to breeding, buckle up tight. . .

Mine is Flat Tire Farm, for, well, obvious reasons.

My goal will never be a large scale breeding operation...I just enjoy having a baby around really. I’m also open to suggestions/advice on all things breeding.
