Michael and I are finally going to do one of my biggest bucket list trips. We are going to Vienna in June for our 16th anniversary!
A friend of mine who is a travel agent has an in with the SRS so we are doing everything that we can with that.

Hopefully we will do some wineries and castles.

Anyone been? Got any tips?
I've got my Pimsleur series to start learning basic German.

You know that they are only speaking german in theory, right?!

Just kidding, have fun! I'm sure it's going to be wonderful.

Congratulations! That will be fun! A friend and I are currently discussing a Danube river cruise followed by 4 days in Vienna for spring 2020. I’ve spent some time on the SRS web page and the stallions are out of town during parts of the summer so watch your dates. We also hope to spend a couple of days in Prague. Please keep us updated on your plans. I’d love to “borrow” any good ones you come up with!

Vienna is the best place I have ever visited. It was like a religious experience.

I don't know if you are a Mozart person but he lived in Vienna for many years and worked at the cathedral there. You can tour his homes, you can go to concerts in the actual rooms in which he performed.

There is a small and obscure Clock Museum that is fascinating. A must go, really.

There is an amazing carriage museum at a nearby Schloss. I am sorry I cant remember the name. Go!

The coffee houses are great. But don't sneer at the Starbucks near the Riding School, it had excellent coffee.

Do not cross the street against the light. Even if there are no cars coming for five minutes. This is NOT DONE. Ask me how I know >;-D

It is even better than you can imagine, Really.

We didn't even realize that we would be there for Easter. Easter there is thurs through Monday. Very catholic town. Churches everywhere. Free concerts! Masses playing constantly. It was unbelievable.

It helped to go with a German ie the language >;-/ The service people are not always helpful and sometimes can be quite what we would consider rude. Take it in stride, don't take it personally.

You will have the BEST TIME.

Oh, sounds like a great trip! My parents loved Vienna, but I've never been there.

IIRC, Zonderpaard lived there for a few years; she might be a good resource for insider info. She doesn't seem to post here but is active on COTH.

I actually have a friend who lived there as well who is helping. But thank you for the information.

And Abby, thanks for those tips! I am, in fact, a huge fan of Mozart.

Then you will go nuts >;-> And seriously, find the clock museum. It is in one of the oldest buildings in Vienna. The exhibits are on three floors and the whole thing is fascinating. The docents were sleepy and bored as I don't think a lot of people go. My shoes squeaked on the wooden floors and you could tell that made them crazy. They were terribly suspicious and followed me...if I turned around to look at them they would act busy, adjusting some clock or something. I still get the giggles when I think about it. BUT...the original tower clock from St Stepehns, this gigantic contraption...either the first or only one of its kind, an original 'clock' as in a thing that marked time...its fascinating.

And OMG the Moart presence.

And of course, the Riding School.

I watched the morning training session at the SRS and loved it! I didn't get to see a performance though and I've heard they are great too.

Fun! I did Budapest, Vienna, and Prague two years ago.

At the SRS I attended a performance, a training session, and the behind the scenes tour. I enjoyed all of them. There was another tour I didn’t do I think an architectural tour of the SRS that I skipped.
