I have been searching for a word to describe a person who does not gossip.or speak badly of others.

A good person. I know, that’s 3 words. A person of character. Principled. Ethical. Moral.

I gossiped a lot at my former barn. I made a vow that I would not gossip or talk smack at the new barn. It feels good. Two years ago I was promoted to manager at work and ceased all trash talk there. I’ve become a better person for ceasing gossiping.

Paula, I love those words but do you think they are specific enough to gossiping? There are so many words to describe gossiping, but I cant find one to compliment the opposite.

I think it's more a turn of phrase. E.g. You'll never hear Chisamba say anything bad.

Yes, an interesting question!

Here are a few adjectives that may work: measured, thoughtful, tight lipped, factual, laconic, self controlled, restrained.

I don't think any of them nail it, however.

So what happened. a client had a vet and his posse out ( not my vet) to do a procedure, while they were there they engaged in a topic of conversation that did not sit well with me. I was simply going about my business and not part of the chatter but after they left i wanted to send my vet a text to say thank you for not being a gossiper. but i could not find a specific enough adjective.

So i simply said thank you for never standing in my barn aisle talking about other barns.

but i have since spent quite a few hours trying to find "the right word!"

After you described the situation the work Professionalism came to my mind first.

I also like Discreet.

Ethical

I heard it once described that being good is an absolute. And that’s why there aren’t too many shades of wording to express it. You’re either good or you’re not. Conversely there are a great many ways to express the levels of evilness people descend to.

I do like discreet though!

professionally descreet sounds about right, when referring to a vet or service person. descreet or tactful when referring to a peer/friend
