Name?

So my sister came to visit for a few days and has been wanting to get a new dog for awhile (lost her dog in the divorce), and so I took her to our local shelter. She picked out a very cute chihuahua cross puppy, male, about 10 weeks old and poorly socialized but very sweet. I agreed to take care of him for a month or two until he was house trained and ready to be a "real" dog. As she left on Monday, however, she admitted to cold feet about the dog and may not be keeping him. (I'll still bring him with me when I visit and see what happens. ;) ) Anyways, little guy needs a name--so far we have Pete and Loki. He is black with white collar, and the rest you can see.

I love Chi mixes!! I hope your sister keeps him or you do if she backs out. He is as cute as a button - Benjamin Button - Benny for short. (I'd take him in a heart beat!)

Those ears remind me of a GSD cross my mom was hoping to adopt many years ago. She was going to name him Radar. Very cute!

I like Radar, Loki and B.Button! My other suggestion is Theodore/Theo for some reason. He is adorable. I'm not a small dog person, but who couldn't fall for that fellow??

BTW, there are a lot of small dog rescues across the country (that move small dogs to areas where they are highly desirable, such as coastal cities).

He's dressed so nicely, I'd call him Tux.

All great name options. I particularly like Benny. I'll throw Baxter into the mix.

My sister has rejected every name so far...then again, it may not matter, right? hehe

Btw, this is the most fun little puppy. He's finally starting to come out of his shell and play more. So weird to me that someone would have a litter of tiny dog puppies and NOT play with or handle them! He is well socialized to dogs, but not at all to humans. Samrt as a whip though and eager to learn.

Sue, he is very lucky that he is learning to be a puppy with you + yours! I hope your sister reconsiders, but your efforts will reward someone who will be delighted with him.

Tux is an awesome name.

I like Stitch, both for his big ears and for his learning how to be part of the family!

I love the Benjamin Button suggestion... too bad she nixed that one.

Frankie came to mind.

I've also always liked the name Loki and have thought I'll probably name a dog that someday.

Then again, I once named a dog Ruckus, and he felt the need to live up to his name, Now I'm a bit leery of naming anything a "disruptive" name

Ohh Ruckus, I like that

DO you think your sister is rejecting names as a way of not identifying with your puppy. I suspect this is your dog now.

tangent

when I saw those ears I was reminded of a joke when I was in clinical.
we had a client come in with a little dog with HUGE Yoda ears, like these
Our receptionist, a very sweet , very dear gullible guy asked what kind of dog it was.

I told him it was an Australian Tree Climbing Dog. They were trained to climb trees and flush down vermin. The ears were used for hearing prey, like a JRT only up in the air, not underground.

He bought it, hook line and sinker

Well - Did you decide on a name yet?

So...lately it vascilates between Pete, Ratdog, Ratatouille, and Shorty. Lol

He doesn't come when called or anything yet anyways (still scared of people) so maybe he'll pick which name he's most responsive to. I loved the name Benjamin Button but dh and ds vetoed it, also Radar. How about Bugsy?

Yeah, I'm thinking sis just dumped a dog on me. Lol I must admit, though, he is a lot of fun and I have every confidence we will get him well socialized in the end.
