Another reason I love my barn

Postby PaulaO » Wed May 06, 2020 12:10 am

One of the boarders, we’ll call her J., is older and had a spell of poor health over the winter. Pneumonia, and you know how tough that can be when you are in the best of health. J. came out daily to spend time with her retired horse. J. has not been able to drive lately and hasn’t been to the barn in several weeks, if not months. So the barn manager and the barn owner loaded up
her horse and took him on a field trip to visit J. Pictures were put on Facebook of J. bundled up on her lawn with her handsome horse. This has been a rough winter for the barn. We had a strangles outbreak, then the fire, and now the lesson program has shut down due to COVID. The barn is such a family. Dysfunctional sometimes, but still a family.

I did that for my friend when she came home from a month in the hospital for leukemia treatment. Her horses was staying at my house during that time and no way was she allowed to come to the barn or go near an animal when she came home because her immune system was non-existent. So I loaded up Miss Mare and took her to town so she could see her from her front step and look at her with her own eyes even if she couldn't touch her, and know that she was OK.

How wonderful!! That is a REAL family!!
A friend is in Shands after an autologous bone marrow transplant to battle a very rare lymphoma. I promised her she could come ride Bravo when she gets out. SOmeone brought her old photos of her and her horse (gone many years...)...... Horse people are good people!!
