How To Find An Artistic Painter's Name?

Postby Tarlo Farm » Fri Nov 20, 2015 12:56 pm

I'm sitting in the den of some friends who have hanging on the wall, two low numbered prints their now deceased son had collected. The prints are striking, kind of modernistic, kind of primitive, can't tell what they were painted with. They are both numbered 8/50. They are signed and titled. But we can't read the guy's name! It's Aurelio....something. Any ideas how to find the painter?

Auction house. They do appraisals and have to know how to identify painters.

Of course, you could go on Antique Roadshow....

Is there an app where we could take a photo of one of the prints and the app would identify it?

Good luck. I bought 2 watercolor paintings at an antiques flea market and they are signed Diane. The seller knew the paintings came from Wisconsin, in the 1930s, but nothing else. I have never been able to find any more information.

Maybe retitle as I think of a painter as the person who paints your house :)

I think of an artist in your case ;)

Thanks, but the last name seems to end in either "y" or "z". Or "g"? See why we're having trouble? :D
