I cantered

Postby PaulaO » Mon Nov 16, 2020 7:16 pm

I honestly don't remember the last time I cantered on Miss A. My instructor Ana has been working on her canter. After my lesson Ana canters about 10 minutes. In 6 months I have seen Miss A.'s canter steadily improve. She actually rounds up and uses her hind end instead of being strung out with her head straight like a hunter. Her true canter rhythm is a bit speedier than I would like, but the girl would canter for an hour without changing speed or rhythm. Anywho, I felt brave during Saturday's lesson and whispered to Ana "I wanna canter." Ana then yells "Paula has an announcement." I put Ariel into the nicest canter, popped myself into half seat, felt my legs on her side, and let out some sort of operatic aria.

Another trainer told me how impressed she is with Ariel and another one of Ana's pupils said she wants her horse to move like Miss A.!

Then I had a panic attack. Put Miss A. out, went home, and was flat on the couch for an hour and a half......

Congrats Paula!

I hope to post that I cantered too. My mare has a tendency to jump into it and go very fast. Will probably give her a little sedative before we try again. I did canter her when I was test riding her but with her preganacy set back, then a long injury rehab I haven't even thought to try it again.

The best thing you can do is, do it again! You can do this!

Oh my gosh, Paula, that's awesome! I still get a momentary urge to panic whenever I canter Tio, and I only canter him when conditions are "perfect", so I am so very proud of you that you cantered Miss A. Congratulations!!!!!

I hope the sedative remark was a joke...
