Osteomyelitis

Postby Tarlo Farm » Thu Nov 26, 2020 11:13 pm

Just found out a friend has been diagnosed with this. Sounds HORRIBLE; staph infection between bone marrow and the bone, causes weakness and failure of the bone wall. Often only stopped by amputation.
So far, it sounds like they've done a debridement and bone graphing. Can hardly believe it - this is an uber healthy, formerly physically fit woman. I'm so sad for her.

what a distressing diagnosis. I hope she makes a fine recovery.

Thanks. She's in rehab right now. I left her a message to call as soon as she can or wants too - a mutual friend had notified me - no word yet. I don't know what I'd say to people if I had that diagnosis. This is awful.

She got back to me. She's had bone grafts on her spine and is in inpatient rehab for two weeks. Broke her left hand - her dominant hand - when she fell. Laid on the floor until the police arrived for a "wellness check" her uncle called in because he couldn't get ahold of her. For how long, I don't know. Told a mutual friend she thought she was going to die on the floor, so I think it was at least a day.
Rehab is at a hospital 90 minutes away, so I told her I'd come get her when she's ready.
Honestly, when you get to be 60, life becomes a LOT more tenuous. I'd never have believed that when I was younger, but it's so true. :(

Oh that's sad and terrible. I feel really bad for her and hope she recovers well. The thing about getting older that only older people know is that time begins to fly on wings.
