For Fun: Your hypothetical horse shopping!

Inspired by the horse shopping threads, and because we all window shop (right? ;) ) I thought it would be fun to see what people might go take a look at if they were in the market right now. It's fun to daydream, but maybe keep it somewhere in the realm of reality if you can. When I window shop I think about what I might want as a second horse at some future point when (hopefully) Tesla is solidly moving up the levels and I can contemplate a younger one to come up behind her. Of course, if I win the lottery, all bets are off and I'll buy a made horse to learn from.

If I had the time and finances for another one right now, I think I would be interested in this girl: https://warmblood-sales.com/horse/galicia-moon

I avoid the pricey (to me, anything about $10K) horses or the fancy movers or the upper level trained horses simply because I like to potter around. I do like warmblood-sales for window shopping. I'd for this girl because she's relatively inexpensive and not highly trained. Do I believe I would go for a mare??????

This is what I would look for

The Valenca’s buy and sell Lusitanos all the time and definitely have the type I look for. Be sure to watch his video. Just lovely

If I was looking less expensive and wanted to stay in the states it would be a OTTB or ASB

Other end of the spectrum... I think both of these pony mares would make lovely kids ponies with a wee bit of training (assuming neither are broodmares due to poor behaviour under saddle)

A slightly different answer.. but if I was able to take on another horse, I would probably try to breed MM rather than buy anything. There is so much about her I'd love to pass on.

This GRP would be a top contender for a baby daddy:

Blob that’s a lovely GRP stallion. I’ve bred for all of my riding horses now for years. First born was in 1989. At this stage of my life I won’t breed again though I would love to perpetuate Joplin’s line. She’s 3 rd generation mare line for me. I did see a Lusitano stallion that was very impressive and he tempted me

OK :D . Not a lot of time for horse shopping but I took a quick trip on Warmblood-sales.com in my preferred breed(s) and found a couple PRE that I wouldn't kick out of the barn. I thought at first Lusitano but I did not much like the gaits on the ones on Warmblood-sales.com. I would prefer 15.2-16 hands but one inch isn't make or break. The stallion wouldn't be entire for long ;) . They both need to learn to stretch and not curl but we could work on that...no problem.

For all rounders, I found a farm that breeds Lusitano/foundation QH crosses. I thought several of them quite nice. Website hasn't been updated in awhile but they have had some real solid looking good minded stock which at my point in life is a must. They are all listed as sold so good for the ranch.

Just win Powerball or MegaMillions and if anyone wins, they can buy us all a new horse  .

I not longer ride, its been about 5 years. If I were to ride again, it would be simple trail and beach riding.

I do love, however, rehab and rebuild projects.

This little mare is cute and needs some correct flat work to build her up, if possible. Perhaps some corrective shoes as well, not 100% sure. It would be a fun project even if all she remained is a kids packer. She could make a fun driving pony and I would love to learn .

What an adorably little spotty girl!

Khall, I definitely would not kick that one out of my barn. Very nice.

It's fun to see the diversity of everyone's choices! I had a longer response typed out last night, then I went off looking for the ad for WB gelding I liked, and found a QH mare with Annabelle's build schooling 4th level and started studying that, then forgot what I was doing and went to bed.

Hypothetical horse shopping is way more fun than actual horse shopping. I will track down something that would be my pick if I had no budget. Although it's hard to think of more than just sane and sound with nice gaits!

I know this guy would need a thorough vetting so that I understand his needs, but I love his build and expression:

Piedmontfields, I really like the sound of that guy! Depending on where the arthritis was in the hock, i don't think it would scare me away. He sounds cool!

Ryeissa,, I'm with you I would get another half Arab pinto again in a heartbeat! I still miss my heat horse that was perfect for me and what I wanted to do riding wise. I would even look at a Sempatico bred gelding if it was sane and under 15.3

Khali, that stallion is gorgeous! 17 hands is a bit much tho!

Kyras mom, a friends Andalusians are listed on Warmbloods for sale a mare and a gelding, both are really nice horses!

As much as I love my Andalusian mare for her many great qualities, I'm getting too old for the quick speed of this bred.

From Leslie Lawson's stable, I'd love this guy ... but if I spent $80k on a horse, DH would be most displeased  Also, $80k on a gelding?

The full listing.

Well that is probably in the "won the lotto" category, so hopefully your hub would be happy to have you spend a fraction on a fabulous horse.

I briefly considered just going for it. What's one more chestnut? But he's too observant ... and he's quite aware all mine are chestnut mares.

Piedmont, that guy is lovely. So is yours, Khall.

LOL, SF.

We had the idle "if I won the lottery' discussion last night, in light of the huge pot that's on offer at the moment. Keith was wondering how we would ever spend all that money, then he looked at me and said "how foolish of me, you could waste half of that on horses quite quickly!" Huh? Waste?

Not having bought a ticket precludes that potential income stream, however.
