Just need some cyber hugs

My husband's mom just passed away this morning form Covid and old age (she was almost 90). I worry about dh, who will want to go to the funeral (of course), is in his 70's and a smoker. My mom will be 90 in March and not in the best of health as well, so...SO hard, as I am essentially her sole care taker (except for the folks I hire to stop by a couple times a day and make meals, clean help her to the john etc).

So here I am again, my birthday coming up, and as usual all sorts of sad shit is going on. I just need a hug ;)

Sending you a {{{ hug }}}} for your family situation, and for the passing of your DH's mom. Sending another {{{ hug }}} for your upcoming birthday :) Mine is on the 15th ;)

My mom just turned 89 last month, living independently. But I totally feel your stress, since it's all the collateral contact that we worry about with elderly parents. Did I get the cootie? Will DH bring it home with all his socializing? Did mom make an unnecessary trip to the store because I failed to check with her first? Like a roller coaster.

Huge hugs coming your way. Sometimes birthdays suck.

I'm sorry about your mother in law. I hope your DH is able to attend the services without getting ill.

{{{SueB}}}} So sorry to hear this. I really feel for you, as do several others on the board with aging parents and older spouses...my mom is 92 and I went to Michigan quarterly to stay with her, but it’s been a year since I’ve seen her since Covid. She lives with my brother and SIL and we have 2 other sibs close by, but still, it’s hard to be that old and hard for us to watch her decline...

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take some extra time to hug all your people and Rudy, Tio and the new mare, too.

You are not alone SueB in this situation. My mother was admitted to a Nursing home at the end of February 2020 after discharge from the hospital. Shortly afterwards on March 13 2020 the building went into lock down for Covid and I have not been allowed inside since then. She is age 94 and has dementia issues so it is very difficult to converse with her on the phone. Family are only allowed inside if someone is dying - so I dread it when the phone rings thinking this is the final call.

Hugs SueB. This pandemic has been so difficult. So much loss and uncertainty. Aging parents is no small thing to deal with especially now.

Josette, no one was allowed in with MIL until THAT call and she passed within minutes. DH didn't even go down when she first became ill because everyone was put in quarantine and now he (and I) just wait to hear the plan. His siblings did get to have 1 facetime with her at least before it became too difficult to breathe. The hospital also had a nurse assigned to sit with her 24 hrs a day so she would never be alone.

Thank you all for hugs..........

I'm so sorry, Sue. It would seem to me that not being able to be with her when she passed would make closure a little harder, besides all the other issues. I hope your family can find a safe way to navigate these waters. We're all sending DDBD mojo your way.

Big Cyber Hugs Coming Your Way

Your husband has a difficult decision to make, He has to be super careful since he is a smoker and also to protect you from a covid risk. You can't risk taking it to your mom.

I'm sure his heart wants to go to the funeral, all he can do is double mask, stay far away from others and quarantine at home.

If I was in his place right now, I would ask what my mom would want me to do. She's no .onger here to give me solid advise but I know what she would say.

Hugs to you and your family

SO, wisely, his siblings have decided to do a grave-side service only. Our son will be one of the paul bearers (along with his big brothers and 2 cousins) and so he will drive dh down and back. There will be no inside gathering of any sort. Phew! Downside is that I think it's supposed to rain/snow that day, which makes me worry about the drive down etc.

Now I need to figure out how/when to tell my mom, who already struggles with sadness.

So now I need more jingles as my dh and ds drive to and from SLC for the funeral in this stoopid snow storm. Very busy at work (I know, shouldn't be on computer but waiting for pre-anesth to take hold) so that should help me to stop worrying right? Lol

If today, Sue B, this end is just rainy/sleety and cold in the SL Valley at the moment--real funeral weather, I'm afraid. But we aren't expecting much different till late tonight.

Thankfully, Moutaineer was correct and the weather, while unpleasant, was not particularly dangerous ;) Instead, today, the predicted high winds showed up while yesterday was calm. All went well, thank you for the awesome jingles and/or prayers.
