I miss my dog :(

Postby Sunshine2Me » Thu Dec 03, 2015 3:56 am

Jack - I sent him over the bridge the Sunday before Thanksgiving. He was a chocolate lab. He was my best friend. He was always with me. We took walks together every day. We played in the hose. He loved water. He loved everyone. He was about 14, although that's a guess because he was a rescue. He was so much a part of my life. How long until I'm not looking for him when I come in the door? i kissed him on top of his furry brown head every night and told him I loved him. I miss him.

I know the heartbreak too well. I lost my best friend, protector, travel companion GSD two years ago October 4. 13.5 precious years. I still miss him everyday and my chest tightens with grief just writing this. But it does get easier as with all loss. Talk about him to people who care about you. It will be ok. His spirit is with you. xo

7 years ago today I put down my own Jack. He was the kindest dog I've ever had the privilege of meeting, never mind owning. No doubt your Jack and my Jack are playing in heaven today xxx

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is such a heartbreak as they are so much more than a pet to us.

I'm so sorry about Jack. Of course you miss him--he was part of your being. I think you will always look for him, and sometimes you will see him out of the corner of your eye. He will always be with you.

I put 'my' cat down in April, there are still nights I stand on the porch in tears knowing she won't meet me at the door.

It does get better over time.

So sorry for your loss. There is nothing like the love an older Lab. I put my first chocolate Lab to sleep 26 years ago, I still miss him but with fond memories. On the plus side, I gotta say that Nigel, my son's Lab, has a similar personality and fills my heart with joy every day. I pray you find another like Jack.

(((((Sunshine2me))))) We've all been there. Someday there's gonna be one hell of a blow out party on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I am so sorry Sunshine2Me. Hugs to you.

It's been two years now and I miss my heart dog every single day.

If anyone needs it, there are free pet loss grief support hotlines to call. Most are staffed by veterinary students during limited hours, but can be a good way to talk through grief to a sympathetic ear.

Thanks for all the kind words, and thanks for the links Kelo. I know it'll get better. It just sucks right now. Here's one of my favorite photos of him, taken right after playing in his swimming pool.

I'm sorry Sunshine. I don't know that you ever stop missing them, but it does get better. The grief is not that sharp anymore and most of the time you don't expect them at the door when you come home. When does that happen is anyone's guess except that the time is not measured in days, and, to be entirely honest, not also in weeks.

6 months, maybe? Give yourself time.

It can certainly take a while to float through all the emotions, bouncing back and forth between an ok day and utter sadness. Labs are such great dogs. We helped our 14 y.o. lab mix cross to the Rainbow Bridge on Feb 14, 2011 and she is still deep in my thoughts, maybe not each day, but certainly every week. I can connect with what you are going through right now. Don't feel compelled by friends or family to put a timeline on your emotions. Work through your grieving process at your own pace and with the way you yourself chose to.

I am so sorry. We had to put my 13 year old Collie Lexa down 2 years ago. Yesterday at work i saw a Norman Rockwell calendar with a Collie that looked just like her. I started to cry in the copy room. It is very hard to get over such a loss. Our pets are such a part of us heart and soul. Hugs to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is incredibly hard, no matter how many times you go through it...because we really do love them. Wishing you peace....
