$15 Yankee Swap?

Postby Wicky » Thu Dec 10, 2015 5:51 pm

My book club, where I am a very new member, is having a Yankee swap Monday. There is a $15 limit. I have no idea what to get - any suggestions? TIA!

Warm socks?

OR some nice tea and a mug? To go with reading...

SmartWool socks. Normally they're a touch more than $15, but at this time of year most people have them on sale.

Each person brings a wrapped gift valued at the determined price, then you pull numbers out of a hat, the person who pulls number one gets to choose a gift, open it and show it to everyone.

the person who pulled number two chooses a gift, and either takes the unwrapped gift from number one and gives them the second gift, or keeps the second gift, opens it and shows it to everyone. if the person swapped the gift, the person who now holds the gift gets to open it and show it to others.

until all the gifts are opened. in some games, the person who picked first gets one last chance to pick from all the other gifts and swap their gift out

I'm a big fan of tickets--to the movies, or a museum or local zoo or event.

A White Elephant in the Midwest is the same principle as a Yankee Swap, except you bring something you have at home that you don't want. It can be lots of fun providing people know not to expect anything fancy.

The last time I participated in one a number years ago. My husband chose the package and when he opened the box he was surprised to find a Santa head staring back at him  Just the head, nothing else.... Needless to say no one wanted to swap for it. We called it our "decapitated Santa" and we would bring it out each year just to laugh and remember that party. It was never actually displayed.
