My dog is crazy
My dog is crazy
Kirby is pretty special. He's a 7 year old field bred English Springer. He was bred for one thing - hunting upland birds. His breeder said that a dog like Kirby comes along only once every 10 years or so, and I'm inclined to believe him. He's a lovely house dog and pet (and unbelievably patient with my toddler son), but take him outside and he becomes an absolute single minded animal. He is a stick/ball/toy retrieving machine and I have seen him catch a bird flying out of the air more than once. He will play fetch for hours, literally, without stopping. I once saw him run face first into a barbed wire fence at top speed, bounce off, resume top speed in the blink of an eye and try again between the next set of fence posts. He throws himself wholeheartedly into everything he does. Today I had fun taking pictures of him doing flips after snowballs (another favourite of his). Hope you enjoy these!

I love Springers. Had one growing up, my sister had one for her kids, her son has one. Guess Springers are our family dog.

I can see why they are called 'springers'. He has springs in his legs! What a happy dog.

What an adorable face, too!
Re: My dog is crazy
What joy!
My Mom's grandparents raised Springer Spaniels and she always talked of them so fondly - they must be a great breed.

Wonderful photos! I have field-bred English Pointers and they are similarly crazy over snow balls (which only occur once or twice a year where I live):

Re: My dog is crazy
I'm sure the pointer boys would like your Springer..they appreciate all floppy eared hunting dogs! And they would let Kirby do the fetching while they fun way too far a muck in search of birds.
Re: My dog is crazy
So fun! Does he go crazy over frisbees too?
Re: My dog is crazy
Oh yeah, he goes completely crazy over anything that can be thrown.. If he can't find anything for you to throw for him, he will bring you long pieces of grass. I'm not kidding. lol.
Re: My dog is crazy
Super photos Rosie, what a happy handsome dog Kirby is. We have a German Short-haired Pointer - his colouration is very similar to Kirby's. He adores birds and has caught one on the wing at least once..... never been interested in chasing balls, but point and retrieve birds, no problem!
