The circle of life.
I leave for England on Saturday. I've been summoned home to my father who is very ill. I'm hoping he will know me, but there's no guarantee. He's been in and out of hospital--more in than out, since his ill-fated first admittance with pneumonia 8 weeks ago. He now has sepsis that they don't seem to be having any luck controlling. Even if he makes it through this episode, it has been made clear to us that he won't be going home again, so my stepmom and I will be spending next week investigating nursing homes where he can have full-time care.
The hospital has come up with a truly fantastic tale as to how he managed to get out of bed and fall and break his hip in 4 places, that involves him wriggling out of the end of the bed, sitting up, grabbing his walker (which wasn't even in the hospital with him) and standing up. None of this would he be remotely capable of--and wouldn't have been for the past year. None of us are up to the fight with them at the moment, frankly, and he is still at the mercy of these people, but it is truly offensive to be lied to like this.
I posted about the birth of our new granddaughter the other day. Truly, as one life draws to its close, another one starts.

I'm sorry for your troubles.

Moutaineer, the lies are so very unfair. Adding unimaginable feelings to a time of sadness is just rotten.
Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter.
Prayers and jingles for the best for your father, whatever that may be.

Oh, gosh. That's rough. And soon to be a bit rougher. Take care of yourself and your mom.
Re: The circle of life.
Good thoughts to you and your family in this time. The highs and the lows indeed.

Mountaineer, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Over 50 years ago my grandfather fell at the hospital and broke his hip. He had free hospitalization for life afterwards. I don't even know what the specific agreement was, or even if it was in writing, but there was never another bill and he was in and out of the hospital a few times.

I'm so sorry this has happened to your dad. Sending prayers and strength to you and your family.
I fear this happens to our elderly family members far too often. My elderly mom was admitted a few years back for TIA and upon discharge was left alone to dress herself. She suffered a 2nd TIA and was found on the floor by the nurses who had left her unattended. Now she is very disabled, suffers from severe back pain and is on pain meds.

I hope your trip goes well. Dealing with aging parents is not for the faint of heart.
I'm glad you have the joy of a new grandchild.

Congratulations on your grandchild!
Yes, the circle of life is in our faces. Hoping you have a safe, unexciting plane trip and that your dad knows you. I hate this part. You are in my thoughts. I'm sorry the hospital lied to you, I have words but they add nothing to what you need. Sending you all the positive energy and love I can.
