I am late to add my quick healing jingles, but here they are!
I, too, am alone here on my small farm and my one fear all winter is slipping/falling on the way to the barn or any where else and not being able to take care of the animals. It's only a short walk to the barn, but it can seem a long way in the snow/ice/wind/freezing rain. I know I have friends and neighbors who will come and help, but not being able to get around would be disastrous. I went up in the hay loft only once without my cell phone and never again!
Great to read that you are coping and keeping your great attitude. (I hope I never have to find out if I could do the same!)

OK, so I won't worry toooooo much about you. When you get your leg back make sure you buy a pair of YakTraks for next season.

Please DO NOT go out without your cell phone. Not even for a minute.

Before I put on a coat I put my phone in a pocket.

And then I bend over to do something and it falls out, because I thought I snapped the pocket shut, but didn't. :-(

At least you don't put it in your back pocket only to have it slip out into the toilet when you drop your drawers.

I had my phone fall in the toilet at a horse show. Very embarrassing when it was announced over the PA 8-)

I think you should be pleased, Tarlo, to have inspired such a high level of discourse!

I am still hoping somebody will come up with a solution to carrying the phone and not dropping it in the toilet, water bucket, or whatever. When I had my little old-style flip phone, all was well. It slipped into my zippered pocket, no problem. Now I've got a fancy-pants smart phone, and it is too big to just have in my pocket. It gets in the way when I bend over. And, it's worth a LOT more money, so I'm afraid to wreck it.

Maybe I need one of those medic-alert bracelets that goes off if you fall .... (I do horses alone and an inclined to fall due to my neck/balance issues ...)

I sew pockets with velcro flaps on the barn jackets I wear most often, and have learned to attach them waist high rather than up higher so that when I bend over things won't fall out. I use vests with low pockets more in the summer, but they won't fit over my winter wear.

Oh I am! 8-) Especially on this third day of temperatures in the single digits and winds in the doubles. Neighbors swung by and filled bird feeders and carried hay to where I can get at it in the barn. Told nephew to stay home and work on his own snow pile mess.

Seriously I have now thought about some kind of bracelet or one of those necklesses. Just this morning I hurried (relative term with the cast) out of bed, got suited up, swung into the barn to wrestle a new hay net for the horses. Hopped over to grab a log for the wood stove, hopped back to sit on the step and hoist myself into the mudroom - and realized I'd left my phone on the nightstand. Dammit! And I have both a flip phone, which I use most often, and a smart phone purchased as a business expense. You can imagine the ribbing I take for the flip phone, but I like it. Especially when it's where I need it, when I need it.

Woo Hoo! Called a girlfriend yesterday to be my ground crew and call the ambulance if I came off, chose a lazy, hot morning, lunged for a few minutes, and rode for the first time in EIGHT months!
And today I did it all over again, without a ground crew. :D

Doc released me two weeks ago, but it's been a busy summer and I still didn't feel safe. Using a paddock boot because there's still a lot of swelling. May need to buy half-chaps again. But my mare was good, came on the bit quickly, didn't fuss much on transitions, my heel stretched down, I'm sore today  and all is well.

At Rolex this year, I found a vendor that makes a pocket you attach to your clothing that can hold a phone (because, yeah, I'm not putting my phone in my pants pocket, and who wants it in a shirt pocket weighing you to one side?) It has a 4 inch long strap that you tuck inside your pants or belt that attaches, via magnet, to the body of the pocket. I don't know, tho, if the magnet does something bad to the phone. It's a pretty strong magnet.

Congrats on the riding!!!

Tarlo, so glad to hear you're riding again! I have taken your experience to heart as I live alone and do all chores etc. alone. Cell phone on person from now on!
