Our "OOPSY!" foal. new vid/pics over 2 posts (Apr 30/16).

Some of you may recall that my mare was bred while at a boarding facility (she was NOT supposed to be bred, she was there so that I could work with her!!). It was not a good situation on a number of different levels, not the least of which was the fact that I had NO idea when she would foal (the breeding window was a 3 mo window!), and I had a very important trip planned in mid-late March to attend my dad's 80th birthday.

Murphy's Law ENSURED that the foal did not come before I left, and DID come half-way through our 8-day vacation!! I had everything set up & prepared as thoroughly as I could, though, including having a full garage door installed on the barn with the oversized stalls in it so that it could be closed up completely if the foal arrived in chilly weather (it was -4C at night over the first few days of his life, so I'm glad I did that). I coached my farm-sitter on what to do, and had a vet-friend of mine on stand-by plus my own equine vet.

Well, it all went well! The mare in question is a large (and very cute) pony Fjord/QH mare that some of you might remember was purchased for my daughter, but it turned out she was too green for my daughter. I trained her last summer and took her to a few schooling shows and she cleaned up in everything including intro eventing! She apparently foaled once before as a very, very young mare before I bought her so that was a plus.

Anyway, late in the evening on March 20th, she had a strapping palomino colt! He is 3/4 QH (the stallion that bred her was a sorrel QH) and 1/4 Fjord.

Since this thread is absolutely useless without pictures, here are a few. I can only attach 3 per post it seems so I'll add more in subsequent posts.

No name yet. He is for sale. If he had been a chestnut colt, his name was going to be "Wookie" and his show name, "Let the Wookie Win!"!! But that doesn't fit a palomino.

He's definitely a solidly built boy! I *think* he has socks on both hinds - for sure he does on the right - and maybe a sock on the front, but he's so blonde it's hard to tell.

When I was 11, my sister had managed to talk my dad into a horse. And that year he bought me a foal. 11 months old palomino pony. They look so similar it's amazing. I couldn't begin to think of where my baby pictures are, but here's a black and white of me on my pony back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

You can't see his blaze in this photo reduction, darn. He had a white blaze, too, though wider than your baby's. My pony because the vaulting team's longing pony for a California team in his latter years (he never liked jumping all that much, though he put it on for photo day.)

Your baby looks just like him. I'm seriously in love.

He is very nicely put together besides being cute. I really think the 1/4 Fjord will make him a nicer horse...are you SURE you want to sell him? Glad I don't live close to you or I'd be seriously tempted!

This is horse #10 on my farm, with a planned foal coming in June. I can't keep him!! LOL

Also, this is the first time, I've seen photos of your daughter - lovely! How is her riding coming along?

Both foal and daughter are adorable. You definitely have the luck when it comes to an oopsy foal. Most of the oops foals I have seen are pretty fugly. This little guy should be easy to sell, even if he isn't easy to give up. Horse #10? I have definitely lost track of your herd. How do you find time to ride?

last May when I ended up with an oops foal, my plan was to name it Bogo (buy one get one) or Two-fer. when it turned out that it was a filly, I ended up,choosing a more feminine name.

Did the stallion owner or the boarding farm assume any accountability?

She is on an 18 yr old been-there, done-that Welsh pony mare and is making progress. The pony turns out to have some spunk and is ensuring that my daughter develops a great seat! LOL. They love each other despite some of the sauciness (on the pony's part), so that's what counts.

Well, it's been hard (to find time to ride)! My daughter is only 8 so her bedtime comes up mighty quickly every evening. We had my main horse (my Friesian/Perch) and her Welsh pony at a boarding facility over the winter months and initially we were able to get there about 3-4 times a week. Then February hit and between cold temps and my work demands, I was lucky to ride once or twice in a week (if that). Then I got the flu in March and was out of the saddle for 8 days (fever, chills x 4 days, and recovery over the next 5-7 days). So, it's been very trying and frustrating.

I had my Friesian/Perch (Jet) at the best fitness level EVER, especially for his canter work, back in January, then he lost it all. That's the trouble with draft types, if they sit for more than a few days, their fitness falls off of them SO easily.

So, my horse inventory - as ridiculous as it is - is now:
Jet - my most advanced horse (solid 2nd level, schooling 3rd but the changes are proving difficult for him) - 11 yr old Friesian/Perch gelding.
Dante - purebred 9 yr old Percheron and solid 1st level & also solid 2'9" (pre-entry) level eventing, but sat most of last year and this year will be my across-the-road neighbour's 15 yr old daughter's mount for the summer.
Kammie - 12 yr old Shire mare, in foal to a purebred Hano for a June foal (the same sire I used for her first foal, and he turned out lovely!).
Finn - rising 2 yr old Hano/Shire gelding (Kammie's first foal) - he's just growing up and being a horse.
Aggie - 6 yr old Fjord/QH mare and the subject of this thread.
Aggie's foal
Panache - rising 5 yr old WBx gelding - he's the bright bay I rescued as a 15 mo old yearling. He's now receiving 60 days of pro training since I haven't been able to find time to put solid work on him. He's for sale and has blossomed into a beautiful gelding.
Loxley - rising 3 yr old Friesian/WB "sort of" rescue gelding. I started him in tack last fall and put some ground work on him, and this year he'll get more of that and I'll back him sometime this summer. He'll be for sale once he's backed, possibly sooner.
Sera - my daughter's Welsh pony
and #10 equine is Leon, the donkey (he counts when the farrier is here!).

Once the sun stays up later in the evening - which it's starting to do now - I can more easily ride after work. That'll also be easier now that Jet is back home. Still, as I've said, it's been a challenge!

It sucks getting old. I still yearn for these ponies like when I was a kid. He is really lovely and as mentioned has a GORGEOUS shoulder and hip. Love his expression. IMO he would make a beautiful dressage pony to raise up. (I'd keep him and beside ponies eat less....)

I think he has white on 3 or 4 legs, but it's really hard to tell with his blonde foal coat. He's muddy in these pictures so they don't help. His hooves are light colored mostly, but I've seen other palomino foals without white that have lighter hooves.

That blanket is a Shedrow DOG coat! It fits my great dane and I bought them to use on my aged goats. But, it conveniently fits Mr. Adorable!
