Does anyone have experience using Osphos for bone healing? My gelding had trauma to his coffin bone wing. It's healing but vet suggested Osphos could speed up the healing process. For now we're putting gel pad on his shoe and using a low dose of previcox. First vet who took original xrays told me nothing was wrong. Went for second opinion and the trauma was very evident on original xrays and new xrays show healing.

My friend's horse just got this treatment for navicular bone cysts. I am sorry no one responded to your question. Now I want to know too!

The only experience I've had with it is for two navicular horses; no significant changes in the horses were seen at all as a result of Osphos. One is doing better, but that was more about us doing physical therapy with him than an injection.

I had not heard of it. Did some research. Saw a horse successfully treated for navicular injury with stem cells.

I used to be a fan and then saw a horse almost die of kidney failure from Osphos. His kidney function was checked and was normal prior to getting Osphos. Vets at UC Davis said they are starting to see more cases of kidney failure as the drug becomes more popular. So, I decided that the risk of side effects wasn't worth it anymore.

My horse is sound with the help of Osphos. The MRI revealed fluid in the bursa of the navicular bone. This was treated with a steroid injection. He has had two courses of Osphos and has had amazing results. 0 side effects.

I read that the risk of kidney failure occurs if the horse is on bute or previcox.

That increases the risk but the horses coming into Davis with kidney failure had not been on any NSAIDS.

That is pretty scary.

I think the risk is probably very low. But like any medicine, there is a risk. And it's up to the owner to decide if they're willing to take that risk or not.

Logan is getting Osphos every 7 months. Little to no risk. And he is sound and happy.

My friend whose horse got the Osphos is doing great. He is back in regular work and is sound!

I have my injured mare on Kentucky Equine Duraplex. She's stall bounds and it's supposed to help with bone healing and degeneration. Oringally I had her on a calcium supplement but after a few months I switched to this product.
