Question - Elevated CPK and LDH lab report

Postby Josette » Mon Feb 13, 2017 3:55 pm

I recently did baseline labs on my 2 guys as I was starting the retiree on Previcox for arthritis issues. I had blood drawn on both for my records - the retiree age 21 and pony age 17. Both came back with elevated CPK - not extreme but elevated enough for me to wonder WHY? Pony also had elevated LDH. Both fed Sentinel low starch pellets and alfalfa hay mix with MicroPhase supplement and limited pasture. In addition, I give the pony a supplement for seasonal allergies and both get Cosequin. We are in a heavy tick area and I know they would test positive as I've had Lyme dx myself. Any ideas what might cause these abnormal labs? Is there a dietary change I should be considering to improve these labs? I am most concerned for the pony (pure Connemara).

(Pony ACTH level was fine per vet.)

What did your vet say about the levels? I take it AST was normal?
