Wheeze/Whistle When Riding

Postby PhoenixRising » Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:50 pm

Tuesday Phoenix started this whistle/wheeze sound when working. She didn’t have it Sunday, and had Monday off. No nasal discharge at first, but now seems to have a clear drainage from both nostrils. Yesterday she had no discharge before riding (when we took this video) but had discharge when I got off. Today it’s there before riding.
We’ll have the vet out soon if it doesn’t improve, but I’m hoping someone here has ideas? My first thought is allergies have developed.

I wish she’d have at least let me pay off our vet bills from earlier this year first.... but maybe I should just be thankful she’s made it to 6 without any health issues at all until now.

Anzia sounds like that when her allergies are really bad. And she coughs a ton too. Was the discharge clear?

Even if the discharge was clear, it could be an infection. It's wort having the vet out to check her. With Anz, the vet had her breath into a plastic bag (that was *fun*), and I'm not sure what all else. In the end, she concluded allergies. It cleared up with a few doses of Benadryl, and recurs yearly.

Yes, the discharge is clear.
I haven’t noticed any coughing at all.

I did call the vet today and left a message to get an idea of what it will cost to have them out again. If it’s not too bad I may have them come tomorrow or Monday.

My younger one is doing something similar on and off, though no discharge. I figure it's allergies since I pretty much can't take enough medication to not feel like my head is blowing up.

The vet came this morning.
Thankfully he thinks just allergies too, so we're putting her on an antihistamine.
I had a feeling that was what it was, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
