Ugh....horse nettle in hay

Postby ironbessflint » Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:25 pm

Seeking opinions on horse nettle (with berries) in some of my hay.

Although a pain, would I be okay to pull it out as I feed it, and hope any missed will be ignored and/or not enough to be a problem, or do I suck up the loss and toss all of the hay?

Unfortunately it snuck up on me in our own field...this isn't anything that can be returned or complained about except to myself ;)

In general, horses won't eat it, so I wouldn't be terribly worried.

That said, my younger mare gobbles up anything in her stall (including bits of the stall  ), so I'd check her flakes carefully. My older mare? Zero concerns with just tossing it in there. YMMV
