Favorite Cooler

Postby Hayburner » Mon Nov 27, 2017 3:09 am

My mare is not clipped and has a nice winter coat, but not excessivE. Now that we are coming in to winter she has had some days when she's been sweaty.

I have a turbo dry cooler from amigo, it's a fleece type material. It seems to work ok, but I'd like something to get her dry faster. I bought the Rambo Airmax cooler, it's too small so I don't know if it would work faster or not.

What's your favorite coooler to dry a sweaty horse?

Thanks

I always loved the Rambo fleece coolers, but my latest love is the Rambo Dry rug. It's like a terry cloth and it sops up the sweat really well. I then switch it out for the fleece cooler once the worst of the sweat is mopped up and they dry really quickly.

Thanks for the suggestion - since Smartpak was having an extra 15 off today - I ended up ordering the Baker Irish Knit cooler. I figured I could put this on and then put my turbo dry on top of it. It was a bit less than the Rambo dry rug. With 2 horses I do try to save $$ where I can....

Thanks again !

I love the weatherbeeta wick-dri. It's a light fleece in top with a mesh overlay and mesh down the sides. It's dries my un clipped horse fast!

These are my favorites as well. Unfortunately they quit making the one with the neck piece.
Keep calm and canter on.

Oh boy - Since 2 of you mentioned the Weatherbeeta I may have to take a look at it, just in case the reviews are better than the Baker.

I just got the Rambo Dry Rug and tested it out this weekend. I LOVE it and more importantly, Rudy (the horse) really likes it too. The rug does what the ad says, it really does pull the sweat off the horse. Better than any cooler i have ever tried, and it comes with a neck piece that can be tucked away when you don't need it. I too balked at the price initially, but having read the reviews, I finally decided to take a chance on it.

I will add, if anyone needs a heavier cooler, the Schnieders wool one with the neck cover is really nice for the price ($70-ish, I think?). Pickle's trainer asked me to send one out last fall, so I ordered that, and she was really pleased. Now I have it at home and don't think I ever get a horse sweaty enough, when it's really cold, to need anything that heavy. I might use it as a rug if I need to trailer in cold weather.
Keep calm and canter on.

Thanks for the update on the Schneiders cooler.

I now have 3 different coolers so I guess 1 or all of them should get the princess dry.
