I like that it does not slide down on the nose, is leather can be used with or without a bit and has three longe attatchments. Whatever kind you get, make sure it has an over the jowl strap to prevent sliding into the eye

I bought these in both cob and full size last year and love them. I just wish I'd gone with custom measurements because the chin and jowl straps are longer than they need to be: http://qcvsaddlery.com/en/cavessons/22- ... s-111.html

They do take 6-8 weeks since they make them to order.

I have 2 that I have used over the years. I also have one similar to what Chisamba posted that I bought from Dressage extension and hate it. It is heavy and cumbersome. It is for sale if anyone wants it! Barely used.

Of the 2 I have used, I have one similar to what SF posted with a solid nose piece. It is light and effective for the dirt skiing type horses, but a bit of overkill for the horses who don't drag you around. My more sensitive horses I never use it on. Kept Rip and I though from some train wrecks when he would be a punk.

https://www.webshop.viva-iberica.com/se ... 7541-p.asp this is the one that I use the most even on Rip these days (the rare times I lunge him now). It is a leather covered chain that moulds to the horse's nose. Works very well for most of my horses (though Gaila hates cavesons period and goes better lunging in just a rope halter of all things)

There is also a caveson made with just a leather nose piece. I've never used one but would think it would be a nice one for a sensitive horse. Like this:

I use one like this:

But then I don't lunge in side reins (with this horse, at this point in time). I like the all leather, softer version khall posted.

Have you seen this one Khall? My mare has a finer head and is light, so the less heavy would be best. Years back I had a good quality leather cavesson that was so heavy on the nose I didn't want to use it. On the other hand, if a horse gets 'rambunctious' in one like this, it make not be good for control??

I have MC, it is not much more than a flat halter though it fits better and is made for lunging. You hit the nail on the head though, if they have some woo wee's in there not much control with it. That is why I use the one with the wrapped chain. Still very light and can be softer if you put more padding on the nose, yet has a bit of bite for control when needed. I've used this one on all of my horses except Gaila.

Piedmont how do you like the MM caveson? I've seen one and did not like how it had to fit so low on the nose. Just different than how I tend to lunge. I put my caveson higher on the nose than he does.

The quality is nice. It actually fits my mare's face well. Occasionally my mare is a total yahoo on the lunge, so it is enough on the nose for easy control with my very weak hands.

My instructor uses one of those and imho it creeps waaaay too close to the horse's eye for my comfort. The metal noseband is also heavy. I offered to bring my Wels cavesson instead. The extra jowl strap keeps the cheekpieces away from the eyes and the metal on the noseband is much, much, lighter.

I have this one, fwiw. I bought it because Karl Mikolka told me they were the best. Who was I to argue????

I've read that it's best to avoid the ones with the hinge at the middle. Personally not a fan of any of the ones with padding and the jointed metal over the top. Seems they never got nicely or stay in place.

I have one very similar from Dressage Extensions. It's sitting in my tack room barely used. I hate it. Heavy and unwieldy. I would sell it if you are interested.

I like the lighter ones that have the bicycle chain in the nose piece and form to the nose of the horse. I bought mine from DP saddlery and like it and a friend bought hers from baroque saddlery.

Thanks. I think I am going to try the lightweight one from Iberica. I may get woo-woos, but my mare isn't a big strong type, so it may be enough. I have in the past emailed Iberica 3x about a saddle they sell. Never got a reply. Have you ever communicated with them?

I found QCV to be responsive and they sell a leather noseband caveson. The solid nose one definitely handles woowoos. If you want a bicycle chain one, I have one I will sell cheaply.
