I started leasing a horse today!
I decided to lease a horse instead of purchasing one because I just could not squish a purchase price into our tight budget no matter how I tried to squeeze 5 cents out of 1 it just would not happen.
So for 200$ month plus feet when it is needed every 8wks just fronts. I have a horse to ride and the owner said I can do what I want as it seems (her words not mine ) that despite medical history I know more than she does . And I can do anything with him I wish. .
And a friend of mine is selling her old Crump that she for when I got mine for a price I can do. An old pancake saddle so I can feel the horse under me. Later I will pick up a dressage saddle when I can afford it. Because I just don't think I should do jumping anymore at least the way I did before. Mmmm maybe Lisa knows of one for a good deal.
Anyway he is a gelding, 15.2 chestnut, 12 and a paint. And the only picture I have is with his owner in a western saddle. And I don't know how to put it on here. It is on my phone. But will try.

Re: I started leasing a horse today!
Thank You so much.
He is so flexible to the left but hard as a rock to the right. Its going to be fun getting him to give and flex and relax to the right.
I'm thinking of getting either a roller or a copper bit for him to get him munching and soften some. I don't generally use gadget's I don't like them, I know how to use them just don't like to kwim.
I guess I should be posting my ideas/thought over in the training but it has always intimated me... like I would be laughed at.
But Thanks again

Go to the Training Forum. If anyone laughs at you, send 'em my way. I'll take care of that!

Definitely post your questions, DDBB is a kinder, gentler place!
Also, I find some horses like a French link egg butt for softening and the formation of "lipstick".
Re: I started leasing a horse today!
Oh what a cutie! Congratulations on getting back in the saddle. Maybe he needs some body work as well as a different bit. I stick with Masterson because even an idiot like me can do it. Have fun!

Congratulations, and happy riding!!
Re: I started leasing a horse today!
Horsepepsi, please do come over to the training forum. Your lease guy looks like a prize and I look forward to hearing about your journey.

I second demi - more paint pictures! And if I can brave the training forum, anyone can

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a Masterson?
Final question here next off to training !
Re: I started leasing a horse today!
Very handsome boy. I would recommend body work too. At least an assessment, that kind of stiffness one side usually comes for further back and opposite side so I would suspect some discomfort on the left side somewhere.
I like an eggbutt with lozenge as do all my cowhorses.

I like his coloring! He should be a nice boy to work with. Have fun!
Re: I started leasing a horse today!
What a sweet looking boy. I think I would spend a lot of time just hugging him! Happy riding.
I really got into the Masterson method when my guy was having back issues. I really enjoyed it and he did too. Even if you don't help him physically, it is a wonderful way to bond.
