So what are you watching?

Postby KathyK » Sun Jan 06, 2019 8:40 pm

I just finished series 4 of "Shetland." I enjoyed the first three, but this one was far and away the best yet. The actor who played Thomas Malone was unbelievably good. I had to keep reminding myself it was an actor!

Now I've started the final season of "The Americans," and have season one of "Sneaky Pete" queued up next.

We were completely hooked on The Americans last year and watched all of the seasons way too quickly.

Lately, we've been watching Frozen Planet and Planet Earth 2.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime, and Insecure.

I'm really looking forward to Better Things finally re-starting. It will be interesting to see where it goes without Louis C.K., but Pam Adler is great, and I think this will really allow her to come into her own.

We really enjoyed Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff.

We binge-watched Wild, Wild Country, the docu-series about the Rajneesh in Oregon when it was first released on NetFlix. We moved to The Dalles when I was in high school, about 6 years after the whole thing ended, so we always heard about it from locals. My friend's dad was a county sheriff who'd helped to clear out and clean up the compound when they left.
Keep calm and canter on.

We just binged Billions. Like Suits, on speed. It's amazing. I'm hanging out for S4 which comes out in March I think.
I need to get back to Suits to get through S7.

I don't watch a lot of tv/Netflix/whatever.

I've been watching Outlander and making some of the knitted garments, and Breaking Bad which my DS had recorded for me ages ago.

Just wrapped up Marvelous Mrs. Maisel a week or so ago.
Started the Netflix version of "A Series of Unfortunate events" this week and have enjoyed that so far.
I've been watching Bates Motel here and there, mostly because I never have. Since I'm marrying someone with the last name Bates I feel like its some sort of rite of passage I'm missing
We watched Bird Box last night. Wasn't sure what to expect but we both loved it. I'm dying for more answers about what happens next for them.

Straightforward - Thanks for the heads-up - I don't look at my PBS listings - I'll be sure to DVR this show

Phoenix - I didn't realize there would be more episodes of Bird Box. I liked it but I'm not much of a sci-fi watcher. The ending was pretty cool and wasn't what I expected.

Looking forward to the third season of Victoria starting on PBS Sunday. Otherwise, been watching a lot on The Science Channel. I find "Mysteries of the Abandoned" fascinating. (Strange and often huge structures that are rotting in place, obsolete, etc.) Sadly funny was a tunnel bored through the San Gabriel mountains in the '50s so people could "evacuate Los Angeles" in the event of a nuclear attack. Uh....yeah...like that would work even then!!! Talk about massive traffic jams!!

I watch predominantly PBS and BBC shows and series via Amazon Prime. I typically watch the mystery or crime series but am a bit eclectic in shows. So recently I stumbled upon the sci-fi comedy series about a vampire, werewolf and a ghost living together. Some very creative writing and funny script which surprised me that I got sucked into watching it LOL! Actor Aiden Turner from the Poldark series plays the vampire. I'm sure this series helped get him selected for Poldark. 8-)

I'm a big sci fi fan, so started watching Project Blue Book and The Passage. While I loved The Passage audio tapes, the TV version has jumped ship and changed things way too much for me to be loving it; not to mention they are moving at light speed and missing telling the story well. I'll keep watching but I'm not loving it so far. Project Blue Book, started slow but is getting a bit better, it too kind of jumped in at the start without a good lead in.

Was a big Walking Dead fan since the beginning but I'm done with it this season start up, it's gotten so repetitive I can't stand it, plus they've killed off so many of the original cast and the better ones that are new. Still watching Fear the Dead, it's actually gotten better since they killed off the original cast.

I am rewatching "Schitt$ Creek" via Roku. I put off watching it initially due to the name, but I found it hysterical and need a rewatch to catch the bits I missed. I'm also watching "Doc Martin" via Acorn. And of course "Project Runway" which has gone back to Bravo.

I was playing trivia the other day and this show was the answer. I haven't seen it, but I remember reading your post. Unfortunately I couldn't for the life of me remember the name. I could just remember that someone from DDBB was a fan--which is not very helpful, it turns out!

I think it is on Amazon Prime.

I think this show is one of the smartest shows on TV! It took me so long to come around because the premise sounded so ludicrous. But that's because I hadn't realized that the show itself is really a satire. It's such a delightful show. And the actress who plays Jane is fantastic. The seasons continue to be hilarious, funny, sweet, and insane. Enjoy!

I've been watching the OA on Netflix. It's a show that is at times really interesting and complex and other times feels like all its pieces aren't holding together. I've just started the second season.

"The Detectorists" is practically perfect in every way. :) Sweet, witty, gentle, charming, with real affection for all of the characters and the glorious British countryside. Amazing music too!

We have been turned on to "Corner Gas" by some Alaskan friends. You can get it through Amazon Prime. Goofy humor with a bit of an edge.

If this is the Corner Gas I am thinking of, it was all filmed in my city and a small town about an hour away. Does it have a diner called "The Ruby" in it? If so, it is the same show. How cool!

Yes! Corner Gas is about a little gas station/store/cafe in Dog River, Saskatchewan. How neat that you are from that area! :) I am not Canadian but I read somewhere that this show is more Canadian than anything else the writer had ever seen. What do you think?

Oh, it definitely represents Canada lol! Particularly Saskatchewan! It was a sad day when they tore down the building/filming sites outside Rouleau, Saskatchewan.

I thought the guy cop was hilarious in that show was hilarious.

I am off work after some surgery and doing a lot of laying around.

I started the Handmaid's Tale and Scrubs. Also almost through Parks and Recreation. That show is freaking funny. Got to have the funny stuff outweigh the deep/dark stuff.

We haven't watched Handmaid's Tale in months. Mutual decision. It's just too much right now.

Hockey, comedy, and youtube (Bon Appetit, Whiskey Tribe, Crazy Russian Hacker) have taken precedence. And we watched the last episode of the Detectorists

Baseball....but it's a little painful these days with the way the Giants are struggling. I was happy to see GM Evans moved on, but Farhan does NOT seem to be an improvement, tho I have to acknowledge Kevin Pillar was a good acquisition. Farhan was a region's Dodger exec!! Heresy!!

Over the last 2 nights, I binged Line of Duty, a British police procedural. OMG it is so good. I watch via Acorn, but it might be on other services. It’s about the anti corruption division working to nab corrupt officers. Series 2 is enthralling. You do need to watch it in series order.

I've recently viewed two crime series both filmed in Iceland . I totally enjoyed viewing the stunning landscape and northern lights besides the stories.

The first was a 2 season series called 'Fortitude' which I would describe a bit like a sci-fi crime story. Very fun and keeps you guessing what will happen next.

https://www.amazon.com/Episode-1/dp/B00 ... 137&sr=1-1

The second was another crime series Season 1 called 'Trapped'. Definitely 5 stars and now I'm trying to figure out where / how to view Season 2 which was recently released this year in the UK. Great actors and involved story with lots of subplots.

I recently picked up season three of Victoria from the library. It's good, but I'm not finding it as compelling as the first two seasons. Maybe it's because I've been preoccupied with the horse search. (Ya think?)
