The rest of your 'pack' - dogs/cats etc

Postby Linden » Tue Sep 10, 2019 3:40 pm

I've been thinking of this for a while. Horse people are usually 'animal people' in the broadest sense - so why don't we introduce the other members of our herd - I love being introduced to people's pets :D

I'll start - I just have one other, he's a 6 yr old GSD, neutered male. He's my best friend - he takes such good care of me. Honestly I can't imagine being here without him at my side. I'll post a pic. Who's next?

My new(ish) puppy. She's about 10 months old maybe? Another pound hound, so we don't know her breed. My husband tells people she's a "Boston Heeler"--part Blue heeler, part Boston Terrier. The other one is my son's best friend in the whole world--a now 7 year old english lab. Either the UDBB or this board jingled and prayed for this dog's life several years ago when he got a very serious disease call idiopathic chylothorax that required high-tech chest and heart surgery to save his sweet life. In this picture, the dog is dressed as Elton John for the Fair costume contest.

I had to look at that twice

In addition to my two mares, we have two male guinea pigs. We had a third piggy, Sasha, who died a few weeks ago :| She had a long life.

These are the boys' glamour shots :D After one of our first sows died, I realized we had no good photos of her. All of the rest have been well-documented!

Kind of? We've had 6 piggies, and no two are the same. About the only thing they all have in common is snuggling -- they all like/have liked to snuggle with us. They are social with one another, but generally cautious of humans.

Except Remi  That boy is very social and demanding with humans, while Rocco is bashful and hides in his hut. Rocco paces the cage grumping at mealtime if we don't feed them quickly enough, Remi just looks cute ... until you feed them, and then he's like "mine, all mine!"

We got a plush bed for Sasha last winter, thinking the old lady would appreciate a warm bed. She used it a few times, Rocco too, but they are both more comfortable with a roof over their heads. Instead, it's become Remi's throne. He just lays there with his head propped up on an edge, and doesn't even move if a human walks up.

I have no pictures but I do have:

Doggos as follows:
Max - Kangal
Jed - Blue Heeler
Taffy - Blue Heeler with most likely a bit of Jack Russel in her.

House Cats (shared between the main farm and my own home), all domestic short haired:
Boober
Sarabi
Sarabi's 5 week old babies (3 of them) - Lurch the Urch, Gaston, and Maserati
Cheeky Bastard
Spitty
Mucky

I have named a few of the barn cats though - Trashy, Dennis, Betty, Lynx, Fuzz Face and Beep to name a few.

And I have a pet pigeon as well, his name is Big Booty Barry - or just Barry for short. Or, "BIRD!!!" when he gets himself in trouble. :)

I have rescue rodents. Presently I have 4 male pigs (Matt, Sam, Dave, and Casper) and two chinchillas (Squirrel and Chip). I also have my three grandbuns (Frosty a neutered male, and Kiwi who is Lemon's Mom) at the moment because they evacuated ahead of the hurricane. They are all rescues. I am spoiling them rotten because I don't get to see them that often.

This is my buddy Jabes (short for J.B. for Jack Black) in his summer haircut. I believe he is Border collie and curly-coated retriever. He'll be 14 this winter (pic is from 2016). He's a good boy and often comes and hangs out at the barn (yay for dog-friendly barns!). We've run thousands of miles together, but he had to retire from that activity this year (though he still loves walks).

Here is my kitteh, Ursala. I got her from the local shelter in 2015, the day after Christmas. We always had cats growing up, but she is my first as an adult. I will never be without a cat again. Yes, I have Ursala the black cat and Ariel the red mare. They came with their names and no, I have never seen The Little Mermaid.
