PSA of the day/: When was your saddle last fitted?

Postby piedmontfields » Sat Feb 15, 2020 11:12 pm

I usually have the saddle fitter out 1-2 times each year, but after getting a new to me saddle this summer (which was barely used and needed some break-in time), I finally got the fitter out and the flocking adjusted.

Wow---my horse is super happy and a third level quality canter is right there.

Don't be dumb like me! /end PSA

I had a friend who worked at the Hanovarian Acution and taught afterward in an upper level school in Germany and they had saddle fitters out every couple of weeks there. Since then she has adopted the Ansur treeless saddles as have I since 2003. No fitting needed.

Rooney, I've heard very mixed opinions of how great Ansurs are for different horses. I quite like the saddles myself, but I also know people whose horses have gotten quite sore from them. It might depend on the horse, the rider, the supplemental pads, etc.

piedmont have you ever tried the Heather Moffat Vogue? It is considered to be a soft tree since it does have stability in the cantle. What I like about mine though I don't use is on the horses I have now is that you can get a cork pad to use instead of the foam pads that come with it. Helps to dissipate heat.

i've owned 2 ansur saddles; used them on a wide variety of horses. one hors got a sore back--he was used to a western saddle. i didn't like the ansur company. imo, customer support sucked. hope they've improved! there are other treeles saddles i like bettwr.

You get it fully reflocked, or the flocking adjusted?
Keep calm and canter on.

Flocking adjusted. My saddles aren't old enough to need a complete change out.

What is a saddle fitter? I have never had a saddle fitted. They (the fitters) are a fairly rare bird in wild west Idaho. I know that several get to the area on occasion but I haven't had any use for their services for quite a while. Any fitting I have had done has been long distance.

I am currently riding in a Solution Treeless saddle. I would like to find a treed saddle but the process just seems too daunting and expensive with all the shipping back and forth of saddles. Currently she is going well in the Solution so we will just keep keeping on. IF I get back to riding more regularly, I may have to bite the bullet and find a treed saddle.

Susan, The Brown Pony does most.of the fitting around here. I was hauling to Adrienne to get some adjustments and reflocking. So at least we have a couple options now.

I need to get my Vinici checked in a bit here. Adrienne adjusted the flocking for Annabelle about 3 days before she hurt herself. Now that she's working, we're doing OK with a Thinline shim pad until she's a little more fit.
Keep calm and canter on.

Good to know. Someday I hope to need one.
