Saturday evening was my first gig at the local horse rescue. Evening volunteers make up supplements, doctor owies, groom, pick out stalls. The rescue is housed in a boarding barn, so the guys who work at the boarding barn bring the horses in and give them hay and grain.
Puttering around the barn gave me the "aaah, it's good to be back" feeling. I made up the supplement containers, and groomed 2 horses. Beau, a chestnut TB and Spree a black Trakehner. Both are up for adoption. Beau is a sweetie. Very easy to work around, loved the attention, basically chilled in the cross ties (until a horse in the other aisle got loose! Why me on the first day?)
The other volunteers were friendly and helpful. Oh, and there is a 48 year old burro named Orlando (but called O). He has a regular size stall with a stall guard about 12 inches from the floor.
If my schedule allowed I would volunteer every day.

Congratulations for volunteering, PaulaO! Keep us posted on how it goes.
Re: Volunteering at the horse rescue
Thanks for volunteering. Our nearest is one and a half hours away from me. I can't fit it in. Someday when I retire I plan to do it weekly. I'm sure they are thrilled to have you help.

Whoo Hoo! I would love to do that. You are so lucky. Wish a rescue were closer and I would.
